Low Style

The low style of writing/communication is the everyday conversations we have with friends and family. It usually involves slang that both parties understand. Compared to high style, it isn't as structurally sound and would be frowned upon if this style was used in an essay or doctoral/graduate paper. But by no means does a low style mean that it's bad. There's just a time and place for everything.

Seifert, Kevin. Inside Slant: Knee Injuries on the Rise. ESPN.com. 11 December 2013. 22 September 2014. http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/106384/inside-slant-knee-injuries-on-rise-overall
Seifert's article touches on the rise of knee injuries over the past few seasons in the NFL. As concussions became the round-table discussion around the league with lawsuits and suicides, the NFL had to protect its brand and implement rules and concepts that would lower the amount of concussions. With new rules to decrease the amount of helmet-to-helmet collisions and therefore the amount of concussions, defensive players have resorted to hitting players low. Consequently, more players are coming up with torn ligaments and broken legs and the data shows that there's a steady increase in lower body injuries.

Reflection of the Project Pitch

After completing the Project Pitch, I feel that the assignment itself was pretty good on my part. I felt like I brought my pitch together as a whole through the summary/treatment. But once I am able to get my interviews it'll add another dimension to my project that I feel will be final draft worthy. I did stumbled at the beginning just getting started and where I wanted to go with doing my summary and treatment, but once I got started and understood what I was going to do then it came together nicely.

Project Pitch Topic

For my project pitch I was going to write about concussions and the effects that CTE has on the family of those players. I feel that this topic endorsed the theme of difference because this disease doesn't happen to everybody. It effects a small group of people in a community in the NFL.

"Is Google Making Us Stupid?" Reflection

After reading "Is Google Making Us Stupid" by Nicholas Carr I feel as if the main idea he was trying to get across was that in today's day and age we are constantly reading while on the go. Whether it's a text message or we need to look something up for a class we are always reading considerably fast. Google has become one of the world's greatest inventions due to it's layout and accessibility. When using Google, we simply type in a few keywords and thousands and even millions of results come up in several seconds. We skim through the websites to find what we need in several minutes and we're done. There's no real thought put into the soft research we just executed. This is what I feel Carr is trying to get across. Yes, we may read more now than at any time in history, but with the way Google and other search engines work, we don't necessarily have to put in a lot of work when doing research or finding out news because it's right there at our fingertips instead of in books.

Research

2 pieces of info/points about research that are important are being able to know where to start with your topic. If you don't know where to start with your research then your topic won't be as thorough as you'd like it to be. Another piece of info that was important was to always remember to cite your sources within your paper and in your annotated bibliography. Just so that people know your source is credible, which can help elevate your paper to a new level.
